In the following you will find brief background information on the sending of SMS text messages from the ALS:
TheALS uses the extended services of the mobile phone providers, who convert e-mails into text messages and send them to mobile phones. This means that the ALS only sends e-mails, which are forwarded by the mobile phone provider to a mobile phone. In order to make this possible, this function must be enabled by the mobile phone provider for each mobile phone. This process varies from provider to provider, likewise the e-mail address which the provider assigns to a mobile phone. The following is an example of the procedure with 'T-Mobile':
Enabling the function
To enable this function you send a message with the text 'OPEN' from the required mobile phone to the number '8000'.
Receiving text messages per e-mail
The e-mail address at T-Mobile is: T-Mobile <telephone number>@t-mobile-sms.de (e.g. 0171123456@t-mobile-sms.de). This is the e-mail address which
can then be used in the ALS for each event.
The ALS recognises the special event 'Production interruption per SMS'. E-mails are sent here too, as with all other events. This event only exists so that the messages can be configured separately for sending to mobile phones when production is interrupted. For example, you may wish to send a message to an e-mail address every time, and a text message to a mobile phone only at certain times.
Important to know:
Receiving e-mails on a mobile phone in the form of text messages is subject to charges. For this reason the providers limit the number of messages to be received daily and
monthly. The standard setting with T-Mobile is 100 e-mails per month and 10 per day (1 e-mail = 1 SMS text message).
This setting can be changed. By sending an SMS with the text 'OPEN M200 T20' to the T-Mobile number 8000 you can change the setting to 200 monthly and 20 daily. For information on the current e-mail setting, send an SMS with the text 'STATUS' to the T-Mobile number 8000.
